My Humane Society Calendar

I wanted my calendar to be visibly appealing while still being simple and easy to navigate. I did this by using the four design principles. In regards to contrast, I used a variety of fonts and colors so that specific aspects of my calendar would stand out. I used a funky font and colors for each month’s name at the top of the page and used a different font and color for each coupon so it would be clear that each coupon was different. Next, for alignment, I made sure that everything had its place and that nothing was randomly placed in the layout. For repetition, I made each of the three pages look extremely similar. I did this by making my first page a master page and then basing the other two pages off of it. I displayed the final element, proximity, by having the same colors for my heading, picture and calendar so that it is clear that they are the main focus.

In regards to design elements and why they appeal to my intended audience, I tried to use fun photographs and visually appealing designs. I chose use the corner options menu to make the corners of all of my coupons “fancy” instead of just plain rectangles. I also used the polygon shape tool to create a star shape behind my “did you know…” portion of the calendar. Finally, instead of my photos being straight forward, I used the rotate option to put them at an angle. With all this being said I feel like my design appeals to my intended audience because it shows fun photographs of animals and displays an easy to use calendar.
