My PSA Advertisement

For my PSA advertisement I really wanted to draw people’s attention to drunk driving and knowing their limit. I feel as though too many people just assume that a few beers will not get them intoxicated and that they will be fine to drive. For my ad I tried to focus on the principles of design. For example, I used the styles option in order to create a pattern on the words “limit?” and “.08”. By using repetition, I can draw the reader’s eye to the two most important words on my ad. In regard to contrast, I made sure that all of my different sets of text had different colors so that they would contrast each other and stand out instead of blending into the background.

I feel as though my PSA appeals to the reader because it is bright and eye catching while also being straight to the point. I chose to use bright colors so that if a person is flipping through a magazine, their eyes are attracted to this specific advertisement on the page. Instead of filling the advertisement with a lot of pictures or too much text, I wanted to keep it simple. When people are flipping through a magazine, they are not usually going to read every word on every page. By keeping it simple, the reader will get what the advertisement is saying within seconds of reading it.

When looking at software techniques, they were extremely beneficial to me when trying to get the beer mug I used to blend into the background. By using the magic wand tool and feathering, I was able to take out the white background that was around the mug and delete it so that only the actually mug itself was visible. The feathering tool helped the mug blend around the edges instead of the edges being jagged.

This advertisement fits the mold of a PSA because it brings awareness to a major issue amongst all people. Drunk driving not only affects the driver, but also anyone else that is on the road at the same time. By saying, “know your limit” I am giving the reader a desire to take action. The reader will see “know you limit” and hopefully next time they are drinking they will remember that their limit is extremely important.
